Greetings from the Food Animal Practitioners Club at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
As an official student organization at Virginia Tech our goal is to expose those students interested in food animal medicine to extracurricular learning experiences. We hold rounds reviewing clinical cases, have wet labs for hands-on experience, host speakers at our monthly meetings, and assist in planning an annual Bovine Reproduction Symposium class. In an effort to broaden our experience opportunities and professional network within Virginia, we would like to compile a database of Food Animal Practitioners that are willing to open their practice to veterinary students.
Our goal is to make this database available to students looking for clinical exposure in food animal medicine. These students will vary in experience levels, and may be looking for anything from a one-day visit to a summer-long position. Access to database entries will require log-in so that privacy concerns may be alleviated. Practitioners listed on the database will be given a log-in identification and password so they may access their entry as well.
If you are willing to participate, please follow the link on the left labeled, Add Practitioner, to be redirected to the online version of the survey. On the form is a section to outline the types of students you are willing to work with. You will also find areas to include your preferences regarding time of year for, and length of visits.
Many of you are already opening the doors of your clinics to our students through senior year externships and the VVMA’s mentoring program and we greatly appreciate your dedication to our field, and to our students. Our hope is to create additional learning opportunities to interested veterinary students through this database.
